The inland glacier lakes of Quinghai-Tibet plateau, western China at an
altitude of 4,500 show drastic area expansion from 25,600 to 32,300 square Kilometers
in the past 20 years. The expansion of glacier lakes by 26 per cent and
shrinking of glaciers by 15 per cent is mainly due to global warming. Also the
annual runoff has risen from 61.5 to 79.5 billion cubic meters. Problem of
pastureland inundation and floods have also arisen.
