FOREST OF TERAI BEING CLEARED- NEPAL



In the last two decades, 32,000 ha of the Terai forest area have been cleared. According to the Department of Forest Research and Survey (DoFRS), the situation worsened from 2001 onwards when the annual rate increased to 0.44 per cent from 0.40 per cent. The trees were being cut at a rate of about 6 trees per ha in Terai, where as 3 trees per hectare were cut in Chure range annually.
