Locals of Kandi belt region in Jammu district, northern India had
constructed many ponds for harvesting rainwater to solve their problem of water
scarcity. But those ponds are now in risk due to new settlements in the area. Traditional
ponds are in the verge of extinction due to poor management, growing
population, growth of new residential colonies, solid waste dumping and
sewerage disposal.
