Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) has
started to maintain DNA profiles of tigers inhabiting various national parks
and wildlife reserves of Nepal. According to the DNPWC, the DNA profiling helps
to identify the originality of the seized tiger parts which will also help to
enforce the Wildlife Conservation Act- 1973 more effectively in the area. At
present, DNA samples have been extracted from scats of around 70 tigers while
there are 198 as per the latest census report
