SHINGKHAR-GORGAN HIGHWAY: DEVELOPMENT OR CONSERVATION- BHUTAN



A heated controversy has erupted between the government and the conservationists when 67km long Shingkhar-Gorgan highway was constructed which cuts through the tiger habitat at Thrumshingla national park, eastern Bhutan. Government has assured that the road is necessary for poverty alleviation and will be made in ecologically sustainable way, but conservationists argue it would disturb the habitat and movement of tiger.
