Illegal axing of about 349 trees has been reported
in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh, northern India for illegal sand mining.
According to the local forest officials, 214 trees has been axed in Salogra
village and 143 in Jokhri of which 346 were oak trees and 11 were of various
broad leafed categories. Similarly hundreds of trees including over 100
endangered plants have also been reportedly felled to widen Srinagar-Jammu
National highway in northern India.
