AIR POLLUTION INDUCING RESPIRATORY DISEASES IN KATHMANDU VALLEY, NEPAL



Expansion of roads has led to air pollution in Kathmandu valley, central Nepal resulting in the rise in the number of cases of respiratory diseases. According to the ministry of environment, PM10 concentration in the ambient air of valley was recorded to be 669 µg/m3 against 120 µg/m3 given by WHO standard. The number of patients sufferings from air pollution induced diseases like pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis have doubled since the road-widening drive began.
