AQUATIC LIFE ENDANGERED- Nepal

The aquatic life of Bedkot lake Kanchanpur, far western Nepal has been affected due to over-fishing. The endangared aquatic faunas like Tortoise (Testudo graeca), Python snake (Python regius) have been caught in the last few months.

GLACIERS SHRINK - CHINA

The global climate change has adversely affected the glaciers of Tibet, southwest China. The frozen earth has declined by 24,000,000 ha and glaciers have shrinked by 15% over the last 30 years. This is equivalent to that of the past 200 years.

DECLINING SNOW COVERAGE - CHINA

The number of days with snowfall had declined from 1981 to 2014 in Qinghai Tibet Plateau, southwest China. It has declined by 4.7 days per year on average and annual average maximum snowfall depth by 0.47cm. The snow covered area in the plateau was 19,000,000 ha accounting for 15.8 % of entire plateau from 2001 to 2014. The satellite remote sensing data 2014 had showed 17,600,000 ha on average which was 140 ha smaller than multi-year average.

WATER SHORTAGE - NEPAL

Around 182 households in Pallikot VDC, Gulmi district, western Nepal are facing difficulties in collecting water since the past two decades. They have been spending an average of six hours every day in fetching water for their family due to inadequate water sources in the surrounding area. This has affected the education of children.

FLOODS WREAK HAVOC - Pakistan

The floods accompanied by heavy rainfall had destroyed a bridge in Mastuj sub-division, disconnecting ten union councils from the main Chitral city, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, north western Pakistan. Likewise several houses, bridges and roads have been washed away. The rehabilitation and recontruction works have been started in the affected areas.

HEAVY RAINFALL FORECAST - Bhutan

The Met Department had forecasted the occurrence of heavy rainfall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Kashmir, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad over the weekend. Lahore had received 119 mm, Islamabad 66 mm, Murree 55 mm, Bannu 43 mm and Jhelum 26.6 mm rain. Heavy rain is expected in Kashmir, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Gujranwala divisions over the next two days.

HEAVY RAINFALL WREAKS HAVOC - India

The heavy rains had adversely affected different areas of Jammu Kashmir, northern India as water has not been supplied for 3-4 days. Link road, Pipal Wali Gali, Lower Mastgarh and the adjoining areas of Purani Mandi have been suffering from water crisis. Locals are able to fetch only one or two buckets of water daily.
