In Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), government has
established a "women markets" where women are both, buyers and
sellers. The market, exclusively meant for women, makes them feel more
comfortable dealing with each other than with men. There are more than 600
women operating their independent businesses in over 600 shops in 30 women
markets across G-B. Interestingly, certain shops have been out of business
while numbers of women-owned shops have gone up. With overwhelming response
from the women group, similar programs are being replicated in the neighboring
Chitral valley.
