TIMES ARE CHANGING- INDIA

People from the Lisu tribe in eastern Arunachal Pradesh have teamed up with the forest department to protect wildlife in Namdapha Tiger Reserve (1985 sq km). Lisu volunteers who are informers and guides are being paid  IRS 2,500 per month by the department as honorarium. Since last 14 months, no reports of major poaching activities have been reported from the reserve. Not so long ago, the traditional hunting practices of the Lisu tribe were considered a potential threat to wildlife in the reserve.
