SWAMP DEER NUMBER RISES- NEPAL



This year the figure for swamp deer (Cervus duvaucelii) in Shuklaphanta Widllife Reserve rose from 1,825 last year to 2,170 according to census count results. Officials of the reserve notified 505 males, 1280 females & 385 as baby deer while affirm proper management of wetland, habitat and curb on poaching behind the increasing trend in number of the deer. The census could be seen as a joint venture with National Trust for Nature Conservation, Buffer Zone Management Committees and the Terai Arc Landscape Programme.
