BID TO PROTECT BIODIVERSITY- INDIA



Forest department in Himanchal Pradesh are sparing no efforts to wipe out Lantana, an exotic flowering shrub that threaten the native species to a great extent. As reported by a forester, lantana is estimated to have spread over 1,850 sq km of forests and wastelands, especially in the subtropical belt of Sirmaur, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan And Kangra districts. Mechanical method has been deployed to uproot the weeds and using tools like monkey jack.
