Various restaurants in Kaski District, west Nepal, were
found to be selling rare birds’ meat such as Lophophorus and Pheasants at a
cost of around Rs. 3,000-3,500. Eateries at Pame, Pumdibhumdi, Bhujungkhola,
Sardikhola, Dobilla and Lumle are reported to be serving such meat. As a result
these conserved species including Lophophorus which is the national bird of
Nepal, are getting extinct in many habitats. Forests in Kaski harbor variety of
bird species and that is why poaching activities are found to be high here.
