MIRIK LAKE IN PERIL- India

Mirik Lake in Darjeeling, north western India, is one of the major tourist destinations of
India. But the lake has now deteriorated due to unmanaged selling activities of hawkers near the lake which has disturbed the ecosystem and its scenic beauty. Disposal of food wastes is a major problem as food vendors throw their waste directly into the lake and the dirty water is again used for washing utensils which is further ruining the situation. In order to control the pollution, there is the need of relocation of the shopping stalls away from the lake.
