A finding from the nationwide winter bird count
indicated increase in number of birds in the country in spite of a loss of
habitat. Nepal is host to over 8 per cent of the total birds in the world
supporting 871 species of which 150 are winter birds and nearly 200 wetland
birds. The findings revealed that three bird species -- great thick knee, black bellied Tern and
Black-necked Stork are missing from Chitwan.
