Sira Barbet
A new species of bird has been discovered in the Peruvian Andes—the Sira barbet (Capito fitzpatricki). The Sira barbet was first discovered in a 2008 expedition led by Michael G. Harvey, Glenn Seeholzer, and Ben Winger, all ornithologists who had previously graduated from Cornell University. At the time of its discovery it was thought to be a Scarlet-banded Barbet. However, after closer examination it turned out to be a new species. It was finally published in the July 2012 issue of The Auk, published by the American Ornithologists' Union.
