ECOLOGY ALONG THE ROAD TO HEAVEN RESTORED- CHINA

Desertification on Qinghai-Tibet railway, the world’s highest railway system, has been controlled which was spread over 443 km of the 1,956-km railway line.  This has led to increase in vegetation cover from 2% to 40%.  The restoration project involved an investment of 300 million yuan in an area of 240,000 hectares. Over the past 3 years, temperature on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has increased by more than 2 degree C on average according to scientists.
