Around 200 locals of Ringmo village in Dolpa
district, western Nepal were benefited by a simple hydro-kinetic electric power
system installed by Himalaya Currents Inc and New Energy Corporation. The
in-stream five-kilowatt water turbine is providing free energy of around 100
watt in each household. The power generated is being used to illuminate houses,
hotels, schools and to operate the birthing centre established to aid safe
delivery. Himalaya Currents Inc have trained three locals to operate and
maintain the system and handed it over to the village so that it would run in a
sustainable manner.
