RHINO POPULATION LEAPS - INDIA



Number of Indian rhinos (Rhinoceros unicornis) in Kaziranga National Park of Assam northeastern India hit 2,544 this year in spite of severe poaching activities. The number is supposed to have taken a leap by 27 per cent since 2006.  At the same time, 156 rhinos were also killed in the state. However, the Government of India has targeted rhino population to increase to 3,000 by 2020.
