Problem of soil erosion resulting from deep
ploughing of fields to increase grain output has endangered the living
condition of water birds especially black-necked cranes on wetlands of
Lhunzhub, Tibet, southwestern China. They are the only kind of cranes living at
such extremely cold and oxygen deficient high altitude feeding on roots, seeds
of plants, small frogs, fishes, snakes and insects.
