Acute shortage of food in Bichhainya VDC of Bajura district,
western Nepal has compelled the youth to migrate to neighbouring India. The
village is one of the remote VDCs of the district and has the least
agricultural production. The food shortage in the VDC escalated after the
Support Activities for Poor Producers of Nepal, an NGO that used to distribute
food in the area in coordination with the World Food Programme, stopped its
activities two years ago citing technical reasons.
