BIODIVERSITY EDUCATION- CREATING A REPLICA ECOSYSTEM FOR AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL- CANADA

Using common plants, clay animals, and a lot of creativity we made a replica of the Macoun Marsh Ecosystem for Elementary and Junior High students.

These panels show the seasonal cycles and turnover of species.

Building up the frame.

Bio-cast of a Painted turtle that was then "painted".

Eleven years of research at this site was the inspiration of the model ecosystem.  Above is a Green darner made out of plastic, clay and wire.

 Plastic SPLASH

Silica-dried Canada Goldenrod with a common dried beetle (Locust borer)

Clay model of a Blue-spotted Salamander under a stone.

This model ecosystem prepares the students to find the living species at our local research site.  Models and paintings were made by biology teacher Mike Leveille,
St-Laurent Academy Elementary and Junior High School
