PESTICIDES AFFECT BEE POPULATION- NEPAL

Extensive use of pesticides in commercial agriculture has led to decrease in population of wild bee colonies in Kaski district, western Nepal. Moreover, deforestation and destruction of entire colonies during honey harvesting are most responsible factors for the decimation. As per the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the worth of global crops with honeybee’s pollination was estimated to be nearly 200 USD in 2005.
