Monasteries in Tibetan Plateau
are serving as critical allies for snow leopards with monks acting as a
de-facto wildlife guardians. A study has found that over 300 monasteries are
located in the same sky-high region as the habitat of the snow leopards of the
Tibetan Plateau. Monasteries protect more snow leopard habitat than local
nature reserves. Senior monks are important opinion makers in their
communities, positively impacting societal attitudes and behavior towards wildlife.
