LESS NUMBER OF MIGRATORY BIRDS, HUNTERS DEJECTED- PAKIISTAN



This winter Siberian ducks coming to Chitral valley, starting point of Indus fly away of migratory birds, has gone down making it a dull hunting season (February-April) for bird hunters.  Locals in the area are so obsessed with hunting of birds; they spent large sums of money to build artificial lakes and ponds along the river. Despite this, poaching in the area is going unchecked.

RAMSAR SITES- BHUTAN



Bumdeling in Tashiyangtse Dzongkhag and Khotokha in Wangduephodrang have been listed as a Ramsar site. Both the wetlands are wintering grounds for 160 black necked cranes.

670 MILLION YUAN FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FUND- CHINA



The Pulan County in north Tibet's Ngari Prefecture along with public welfare foundations, will establish a fund of 670 million Yuan for environmental protection of holy mountains and sacred lakes. Every year thousands of tourists visit the county which is home to Mt. Kangrinboqe, Mt Namnani, Mapham Yutso Lake and Lannga Co Lake.

‘QUEEN OF WETLANDS’ IS DYING OUT- INDIA



Hokersar wetland -the Ramsar site- which is an important refuge for migratory birds is facing extensive encroachments, siltation and pollution. In the past four decades its area has shrunk from 210 hectares in 1969 to less than 45 hectares.

GOVERNMENT CANCELS DAMS ON TEESTA RIVER- INDIA



Out of 26 proposed hydropower dams on Teesta River, four dams have been scrapped by the Government of Sikkim following the public outcry and sighting potential environmental threats. The three projects are of 99 MW each and rest is of 280 MW.
