GOVT TAKES NO STEPS FOR PHEWA LAKE CONSERVATION- NEPAL

The government has taken no conservation initiative even nine months after the high-level committee formed to study encroachment on the Phewa Lake submitted its report along with recommendations. According to the experts, more than 140,000 metric tons of sand is deposited in the lake every year. The lake, which had spread over an area of about 1,100 ha earlier, has now shrunk to 600 ha.
