almost all important elephant habitats and many Protected Areas in India.
Assam, a prime abode of Asian Elephants (Eliphas maximus), a flagship species;
has lost 71 elephants in 41 different accidents from 1987 to 2012, according to
the WTI. This has indeed become a matter
of grave concern in conservation circles.
