Health Award Nominated by Devonshire Public School- Canada
Growing Up Organic is a project of Canadian Organic Growers' Ottawa
Chapter. They run a number of active programs aimed at increasing youth
awareness of and access to local organic foods, while encouraging increased
organic production for the local community. To date we have partnered with 28
schools across the Ottawa region in establishing organic school garden
programs...the harvest grows more bountiful every year! They also facilitate a
series of complimentary programs including curriculum-connected garden
based workshops and our innovative "Farm-Gate Cafes", whereby
students participate in farm field trips to local organic farms, or host an
organic farmer right in their classrooms; after learning about the most
important part of the food production system, students bring delicious local
organic vegetables back to the classroom where they prepare a meal in
collaboration with a local chef and/or nutritionist.
