NO TIGER RESERVE AT THE EXPENSE OF LIVELIHOOD- INDIA

The Kukis, ethnic group, are not in favor of proposed tiger reserve (1,650 square km) as recommended by the state forest department in eastern and central Karbi Anglong district of Arunachal Pradesh. They fear that it will put the livelihoods of more than 50,000 people at risk as the proposed area includes 80 percent of their agricultural land where mostly ginger is cultivated. The proposed tiger reserve also dubbed as the biggest reserve in the country will be spread over two wildlife sanctuaries and seven reserve forests.
