FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEM AT WANGCHUCK CENTENNIAL PARK IS HEALTHY SAYS STUDY- BHUTAN

A first ever study on the freshwater biodiversity of the Wangchuck Centennial Park suggested that the ecosystem is in a healthy state. The study recorded 1107 insects from 18 sampling sites of four rivers - Nikka Chu, Mangde Chu, Chamkhar Chu and Kuri Chu - and their tributaries however, no native fish species was found in Chamkhar Chu. Pesticide usage, hydropower dams and introduction of exotic species are some of the threats to the freshwater biodiversity.
