On the basis of vulnerability to climate change, the forest department has
identified 125 landscapes of importance in the lower hills such as Shivalik
ranges, high altitude areas and the mid-hills of Himachal Pradesh, northern
India and the Green India Mission has formulated projects worth 260 million
rupees for their rehabilitation. A total of 11 indicators such as forest cover,
population and its caste composition, wastelands, protected areas and
biodiversity etc were used to work out the index for vulnerability of landscape
areas to climate change.
