Glaciers in Himachal Pradesh, are receding
alarmingly. Since 1962, the total area of glaciers declined from 2,077 km2
to 1628 km2 with deglaciation of 21% of the total area. Geological
Survey of India has estimated retreat in three glaciers in Satluj basin, six in
Chenab, five in Beas and two in Ravi basin.
