Some 2500 fingerlings have been released in
Bagmati River supposedly to raise awareness on positive action for environment
protection. The five species of fishes were provided free by Nepal Agricultural
Research Council, a government organization. The environmentalists have
criticized this event, and have claimed that none of the fish will survive as
Bagmati is not a suitable habitat for these fishes because of over-pollution
and consequent lack of dissolved oxygen.
