The GYBN (Global Youth Biodiversity Network) interim steering committee Elections

Dear GYBN Members and Interested Parties,

The GYBN (Global Youth Biodiversity Network) interim steering committee would like to notify you about our first official elections! Elections will be held for a) 2 focal points b) 8-15 steering committee members; elections for both shall take place November 8th-15th 2012. The mandate for each of these positions is outlined in the GYBN Statute (attached; see points VII and VIII, respectively).

Further and more detailed information, including the official call for elections, will be provided next week.  This email will outline the procedure for application.

If you have any questions about the roles of the focal points or steering committee members after reading the attached Statute, please feel free to contact us at gybnsteeringcommittee@gmail.com.  The information about how to apply and the deadline for application will be provided next week.  

Election Timeline:

• Official call for nomination or self-nomination will be sent October 29th – November 2nd. Submissions can be made until November 5th.

• Applications will be reviewed for quality and eligible candidates will be posted November 7th.  The review process will be as transparent as possible; review criteria will be posted and if requested we will send your completed review.  Elections will be open November 8th-15th. .

• Results of the election will be announced November 16th. 

Elections Committee

GYBN is also looking for unbiased third party members to be on the elections committee to review applications, count votes, and determine results.  These people cannot run for election. They will need reasonable availability October 27th – November 16th, 2012.  We strive for gender and regional balance, and these will be taken into consideration in selection of the elections committee. Please provide name, contact details, organisation and country of origin/activity in nomination or self-nomination of individuals for this role until this weekend 26th – 28th of October.
