SMUGGLERS, DEAD ELEPHANTS AND WILDLIFE ACT- INDIA



Police in Karbi Anglong district of Assam has arrested three rhino horn smugglers and following the last week serial killings of Rhino in Kaziranga, the Union ministry of environment and forests has proposed to amend the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. This will incorporate provisions of CITES and enhance penalties for offences among others. Meanwhile, two elephants suspected of food poisoning have been found dead in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
