165 TREES OF DIFFERENT SPECIES FELLED ILLEGALLY- INDIA



In Kangra district of Himachal, Vigilance and Anti- Corruption Bureau (VACB) had started a spot inquiry into the alleged illegal felling of trees on private lands under Suliali gram panchayat. It has finally counted all the trees that were felled without the requisite permission of the forest department. A contractor and resident of nearby Lakhwal village had felled 165 trees with an estimated cost of Rs 3 lakh of different species under the pretext of permission for 25 trees. The VACB started its investigations to verify the involvement of Forest Department staff in felling of trees.
