RECENT MARSH VISIT WITH GRADE 6- OTTAWA, CANADA

December 12, 2012- JUVENILE SHARP-SHINNED HAWK HUNTING- WOW, it is amazing what you can see when students are quiet in nature! We fed the chickadees from our hands and on our heads! Suddenly a juvenile sharp-shinned hawk swoops down and tries to catch some breakfast. While we were watching the hawk, the avian predator was successful in catching a junco. What a rare event to witness. Maybe 7 chickadees, a nuthatch, 7 cardinals (mostly males), many house finches, some juncos, 2 robins, 3 goldfinches and 4 crows were seen. Also grey squirrels and a red squirrel was recorded.
