Import of vegetables has not declined even though
the commercial cultivation of vegetables has been rising in Nepal. According to
Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Development Board, import from India had
contributed 25 per cent of the total supply of 235,000 tons by the Kalimati
market last year. Every year large quantities of vegetable and fruits are
imported from India and China due to failure of domestic production to meet
domestic demand.
