DOLPHIN SPOTTED IN NARAYANI RIVER- NEPAL

A critically endangered Gangetic river dolphin was spotted in the Narayani River at Bhajauli near Nawalparasi and Chitwan districts of central Nepal. No formal sightings of endangered dolphins were reported in Narayani since 1994. In 1986 five Gangetic dolphins were recorded in Narayani. They were also found in Mahakali River about three decades ago but their population is declining rapidly due to intensive human activities and habitat disturbance by dam constructions, pollution and over fishing.
