HYDRO POWER FACES ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN- India

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) has raised an environmental issue on a proposed 775-MW Luhri project on the Sutlej river in upper Shimla of Himachal Pradesh. In order to issue the environmental clearance, the EAC has advised the project developer to redesign the project to 600 MW as the proposed scheme would dry up almost a 50-km stretch of the river affecting the lives of people living downstream.
