BIRDS IN DECLINE- NEPAL
Black-bellied tern (Sterna acuticauda), Nepal’s
residential water bird, is listed as endangered in the IUCN Red List. With
this, 36 bird bird species in Nepal are in the globally threatened list.
Similarly, Oriental white-backed vulture (Gyps bengalensis) around the East-West
Highway across the Tarai is declining. Recent study shows an annual decline of
14 percent in vulture population in Nepal (lower than India and Pakistan).
