BANDED KRAITS UNDER THREAT- INDIA



The Banded Kraits (Bungarus fasciatus), are facing extinction in their habitat at Lakhimpur district of Assam due to growing wildlife trafficking.  Their demand is high in the quackery industry to prepare anti-cancer medicine from kraits venom. Illegal collection has been strong with the involvement of interstate poachers backed up by local collaborators.
