Proper availability of water, management of grazing land and control of
poaching in Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve in western Nepal, has led to the
increase in number of swamp deer. About
2,301 were recorded this year which is the highest population recorded in the
last six years. Among them about 1,390 were adult females, and 777 males.
