PAKISTAN SUCCESSFULLY CONSERVING ITS NATIONAL ANIMAL
The population of Markhor, an
endangered wild goat species, has increased from 1000 in 1999 to about 1500
this year in Gilgit-Baltistan. Thanks to the conservation efforts - training of
wildlife rangers throughout Gilgit-Baltistan and formation of community
conservation committees - which has led to the safeguarding of this important
prey species.
