FERTILIZER CRISIS AND IRRITATED FARMERS- NEPAL

As paddy season starts, short supply of fertilizer has put farmers in the lurch. The Ministry of Agriculture and Development (MoAD) reported that due to unavailability of funds it will import only 5,000 tons of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) this year though it had planned to import 30,000 tons of DAP. According to an estimate some 700,000 metric tons of fertilizer is needed. The irked farmers have warned to take to the streets against the government move.
