HYDRO PROJECTS ARE TURNING INTO MINEFIELD FOR AQUATIC BIODIVERSITY- INDIA

Hydro projects are underway in Himachal Pradesh, it is putting aquatic life in
peril. An environmentalist studying the impact of hydel projects has singled
out several environmental catastrophe including drying up of traditional water
sources, decimated vegetation along river side, new breed of plants replacing
old varieties and dying of fish species. It also includes increase in water
temperature and decrease in humidity of the surroundings. Over 500 hydel
projects have been allotted to government and private sector in the state and
half of them have already received No Objection Certificate from the Fisheries
department.
