MACOUN MARSH UPDATES

We were pleased to announce that a new species of bird was seen yesterday- the Hoary Redpoll (Image above).  This small pale bird of the high Arctic is a rare winter visitor.  It is whiter than the Common Redpoll and it may be found with the Common form in large flocks.  That places us at 101 bird species seen at Macoun Marsh over the past 8 years.

This little guy was crawling around along the icy shore today.  It is a Caddisfly larva and it is the youthful stage of the Caddisfly, an insect.  It attaches leaves around it and it uses them as a home to hide in.
