CONTAMINATED WATER IN RAWALPINDI- PAKISTAN

Local resident of Rawalpindi are at the risk of serious diseases like hepatitis, jaundice and diarrhea as around 80 percent of the water supply was found to be unsafe for drinking. The study conducted by Pakistani government’s officials stress the need for increased access to potable drinking water.

SCANTY RAINFALL HITS FARMERS- INDIA

Inspite of plenty rainfall, some of the parts in Assam are still having the problem of scanty rainfall and farmers are not ready to transplant Sali seedlings. Similarly, Darrang district is also reeling under the impact of drought like condition for Sali paddy cultivation. The Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) reveals that, the rainfall deficit in the State till date is 32 per cent.

MUSK DEER POD SMUGGLERS ARRESTED- NEPAL

Smugglers in Chitwan have been arrested in possession of 70 gm of illegal musk deer pods which are sold at high price in black market. These endangered species are found mostly at higher altitudes and are deliberately killed because of their invaluable pods.

Ad Hoc Open-ended Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing

The third meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing (ICNP) will be held in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea, from 24 to 28 February 2014.

Bat research at Macoun Marsh- Canada

The little brown bat is becoming very rare due to a fungus called the white nose syndrome.

Last evening we recorded little brown bats, hoary bats, and possibly a big brown bat.  Our hope is to tag some of these bats to further our understanding of their populations.
