Nepal’s community forestry policy received an ‘honorable mention’ along with Bhutan and Switzerland in the Future Policy Award 2011 on conservation held in New York. Also, Suryapattuwa village in Bardia district, west Nepal has grabbed the world’s attention for employing non-lethal ways to keep unruly rhinos away from farms by planting Mentha piperita and chamomile. These plants have helped the ethnic Tharus to deter stray rhinos from their farms, near Bardia National Park. This has been recognized as one of the world’s 12 best innovations in the international World Challenge award for 2011.
