COMMUNITY FOREST: IMPROVING LIVES AND WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION- BHUTAN



Choekhor Community Forest (110 acres) has become an alternative income generating source for its members. Funds generated from the selling of forest timbers are distributed among members. Till date they have accumulated more than Nu.200, 000 in their bank account. Extra income has enabled them to buy household items where others are saving it for their children’s education. Meanwhile, it is estimated that about 70 percent of Bhutanese women are actively engaged in over 380 community forests of the country.
